PoP Project 1: Van For Yogi

Meet my friend, Yogi Adnyana. Yogi lives in Bali with his wife, Parmini, and 3 children: Diah (10yo girl), Mirah (6yo girl), and Gio (1yo boy). They live in a tiny room with no kitchen or toilet, sit on the floor, and bathe in the alley outside.

Yogi makes less than $5 a day. He operates a tourist transport business, but because he doesn't own his van, 50% of his earnings go straight to the vehicle owner, before expenses.

To buy his own van second-hand (5 years old) would take nearly 7.5 years of his earnings, which he can't save because absolutely all of it goes to survival; keeping his family clothed, fed, and sheltered. Right now, they live from day to day.

Yogi is the best tourist transport operator I have ever met--and I've traveled on 5 continents. He gives his very best to all his clients. In his own words, he believes "you should give a best service (from inside your heart) to every people whatever they are."

What do you want to do?

Yogi wants to make a better life for his family. He also has a dream to develop the best transport company in Bali. On his own, the odds seem seriously stacked against him. If he had his own van, his income would instantly increase 5-fold. For $15,000, we can buy Yogi a van of his own. And that's not a new, flash car; vehicles are very expensive in Bali. $15,000 will buy Yogi a second-hand, 2010 model.

Why should I help him?

I once discovered a conversation on Facebook between Yogi and another driver. The other driver was encouraging him to grab a beer while he was waiting and charge it to the customer "Easy, right?". Yogi said never: he was on the job, it's not right to take advantage of the clients, and the doctor says it's not good for your health, anyway ;)

Yogi never, ever, takes advantage of his clients. He has never asked for a single dollar in all the time I've known him, no matter how tough times have been for him. He gives his best and expects incredibly little in return. And he desires to build a company that will provide this level of service and quality of experience to every visitor to Bali.

We can be a part of making it a reality!
